History and Know-how

l’univers braquenié…

Since 1824…

Braquenié was established in Paris in the first half of the nineteenth century as a result of the union of two families with a passion for art and tapestries. A few years later workshops at Aubusson and in Belgium were set up. The richness and variety of its Savonnerie and short-pile carpets, its tapestries and canvases, its moquettes woven on jacquard looms and calicos, its Genoa voiles and toiles de jouy with their co-ordinated damasks ( in the collection since Braquenié acquired a part of the cartoons of the Manufacture de Jouy) make Braquenié unique in the history of taste and decoration. The influence of the decorative arts and the talent of its creators have enabled Braquenié to stir the passion and curiosity of its contemporaries down the years, including Victor Hugo and the Empress Eugénie, in France and elsewhere.
Acquired in 1991 by the Pierre Frey company, Braquenié still maintains its own identity. It continues to transmit the charm of French art de vivre, as it has done for two centuries now, with savoir-faire, tradition and panache.
